Between 20.08 and 20.12.2013, as a part of the Interantional Student Exchange Programme, the Institute’s Tribology Department hosted 2 students from the University of Monterrey (UDEM), Mexico - Miguel Angel Esparza Lastra and Carlos Sánchez Villarrea, who completed their scientific internship and defended their BSc theses.

The first dissertation concerned the issues of the reduction of friction in toothed wheels with curved teeth by means of the application of a thin, hard coating. The promoter of the thesis was Prof. W. Tuszyński. The latter dissertation focused on the wear of elements and tools operating in high temperatures and its reduction also by means of the application of special coatings. The promoter of this thesis was Prof. R. Michalczewski.

The two dissertations were defended on 18th December 2013. Apart from the promoters, special guests including Prof. Z. Heduch representing the UDEM, Prof. M. Szczerek, Prof. W. Piekoszewski, Prof. M. Trzos and the Tribology Depratment employees participated. The presentations were assessed by the Scientific Board at the UDEM chaired by Dr. Demófilo Maldonado Cortés, as they were transmitted in real time using Skype. Both dissertations were highly acclaimed and the students were awarded with a BSc degree.

Both the ITeE-PIB and the UDEM are interested in future cooperation in form of student exchange.
